This system is the fairest possible method for calculating a player’s rake. Only players who contribute to the pot will get a portion of the rake; their portion is calculated based on how much money they have put into the pot. If a player folds pre-flop without contributing anything to the pot, no rake will be awarded to him. You can still redeem your points in our VIP Club! Our new points table will be updated on March 5th on our point accumulation page. Publish Date : 23/02/2012 Print Article Send To Friend

Strategy with Kristy: Reid Young Discusses Showdown Value
March 22 2012, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy: Tax Time Strategy with Kristy: Quinn Sivage Discusses Min-Raising Button Strategy with Kristy: John Kim Part Two Share It Tags Cash Poker, Online Poker, Poker Players, Poker Strategy, PokerNews Podcast, PokerNews Strategy Print Reid Young is professional poker poker player who, prior to Black Friday, made his living playing online cash-games. In late 2010, he authored, The Blue Book: An Advanced Strategy Guide for No-Limit Hold’em Cash Games, which first sold for $2,500. Young is also a very sought out poker coach and has plans to launch an innovative coaching website. For this edition of the Strategy with Kristy Podcast, he discusses various topics, but really delves into advanced strategy concerning showdown value by illustrating it with a couple of hand histories. Here is a snippet from the interview: This straightforward guy raises in the cutoff. We are 100 big binds, effective, so we both have $200 at $1/$2. I reraise from the big blind with ace-nine suited just because its slightly below my calling requirements. Im not really comfortable calling. I think I can take it down preflop often, combined with continuation betting a decent amount and outplay him postflop, plus the equity of my actual hand versus his calling range gives me several ways I can win money here. I think they all add up to make me a small profit on the play. He called, and wed gone back and forth a little bit before this. I was kind of surprised to see him call. I more expected him to four-bet or fold, which is also why I decided to three-bet a hand like ace-nine. Im not as dominated by his calling range, and if he four-bets, I can just get away. It makes it easier to play and less likely that hes going to have an ace-X hand that he can combat my light three-bet with. The flop comes three-four-five, all different suits. This is a pretty good flop for me and one that puts him in an awkward position with a lot of hands like middle pairs. Also, hed call a bet on the flop with a lot of better ace-highs that I think I can get him to fold by the river. Its a good board for me being the aggressor and not one that he wants to get in a lot hands with. Even if he has a hand like pocket nines, in his best-case scenario, I have ace-king, and hes only a little better than a two-to-one favorite. Its not that amazing for him to raise pocket nines, so I have the green light to continuation bet here, looking to fold out queen-jack suited and hands like that. So, I do c-bet, and he ends up calling. When he calls, combined with the fact that I said that we have a fairly pre-established dynamic preflop, its extremely evident to me that he either has a similar hand to mine like ace-jack or ace-queen, or he has one of those medium pairs like nines, eights, or sevens. I think sixes might be a little too light to peel on this flop, but who knows, he could have those for sure. The turn is a two, which gives me the wheel. Its one of those spots where I have so many ace-highs in my range. Sure, I could have continuation bet the flop with king-queen or complete air like seven-eight, and then continued betting on the turn to try and represent an ace, but Ive found that more straightforward players that play their hands based on equity, just arent going to be calling down with pocket nines here. They are just worried about so much of my range, and they will worry about me betting the river. Its not like they just have to call the turn and the hand is over. I can still over-bet shove the river. I can have sixes in my range as well so its not that amazing of a situation for him if he has an ace, let alone a hand like pocket nines. It would be a really tough call down for him. Thats why I decided to check. Listen to the podcast to hear more of Young’s analysis on this hand.

Straight Gives UK Player Super Tuesday Win
Posted by Bradley, March 14, 2012 After eight hours of play, only two players were left standing in the $40,000 GP Super Tuesday R/A tournament and both of them were from Titan Poker. lechuckpoker from the United Kingdom and mainstreamer from Austria were well-matched in chips when heads-up play began. The Austrian player grinded his way into the lead, but the English player made his way back and when the final hand was dealt, again the two finalists were nearly tied. Blinds were 5,000/10,000 and the ante was 1,000 when mainstreamer raised to 20,000 with his pocket cards of 8 6. lechuckpoker made the call with T 9. The flop was dealt: 8 6 2. The English player checked; mainstreamer bet 26,125 with his two pairs, and lechuckpoker called. The turn was dealt: 7. Despite his good fortune, lechuckpoker checked. The Austrian player bet 64,125, to which the English player responded with a raise to 147,200. mainstreamer responded by going all-in, and the English player called. The cards were turned over, exposing the English players straight. Only an eight or a six would save the Austrian, but the river delivered an unhelpful queen. The straight held and lechuckpoker won the tournament. For his first place finish, lechuckpoker received $10,100.40, while mainstreamer had to make due with $7,088 for his second place finish. This was the biggest win ever for lechuckpoker at Titan Poker, while mainstreamer has frequently been spotlighted as one of Titan Pokers winning players. A total of 165 players paid the $100+$9 buy-in for the weekly $40,000 GP Super Tuesday R/A tournament, one of the most exciting features on the Titan Poker weekly tournament schedule. Another high finisher for Titan Poker was Russian player rafter777, who finished in fifth place for a $2,658 prize.

Strategy with Kristy: Quinn Sivage Discusses Using Stats Preflop
February 09 2012, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy: John Kim Part Two Strategy with Kristy: John Kim Part One Strategy with Kristy: Jared Tendler on the Mental Game of Poker Pt 1 Share It Tags PokerNews Podcast, PokerNews Strategy Print Quinn Sivage is an online and live grinder known for his skills in using statistics to his advantage. The latest guest on the Strategy with Kristy podcast, Sivage discusses using statistics for optimal preflop strategy in six-max no-limit hold’em games. Here is a snippet from the interview: The idea of cold four-betting has been around for a while now, but a lot of regs [regular players] still havent added this to their game. If you see that the button is stealing over 50 percent, and the small blind is re-stealing at a frequency of 12 to 14 percent, thats a really great spot to put in a really small, cold four-bet. Its just an insanely powerful play that a lot of people dont do enough. I know that Andrew Seidman, or Balugawhale, in your first podcast, talks about how when people are polarized, they have either really strong hands or really weak hands, and often theyll have weak hands because in holdem its hard to make strong hands. I think thats true except some people dont ever four-bet weak hands. Theyre not polarized if they are only cold four-betting the very top of the range. If you look at that stat, and it says only 2 or 3 percent, Im going to guess that its only pocket jacks or better, and ace-king. That makes up two or three percent right there. That tells me that this player is only four-betting for value, and thats a mistake. When you cold four-bet, you can make it nice and small. You can make it like 22 big blinds, so youre risking like 21 big blinds to win like 19. Half the time, you need to get a fold there. If youre going to four-bet there with tens or better and ace-king, then to balance that out, you can actually put in ace-three suited up to ace-six suited, every single king-queen, every single ace-queen as a bluff. I chose those hands just because they have good blockers. Thats actually a good way to balance your range and will get your four-bet stat up to 6 percent.
