Relatively Unknown Player Wins WSOP Circuit in Oklahoma
The Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma, has seen some top poker players in action during the 2011-2012 World Series of Poker Circuit. Recently, however, when the last card was dealt, the winner was not one of the well known poker players, but rather an out of work poker player. Abraham Araya, the 44-year-old who became a new poker champion, is currently unemployed, after having been laid off from his job as an airline flight mechanic. His company filed bankruptcy when the economy took a dive, and he was laid off, as were others. He used to work on aircrafts that carried the NBA teams. In the same venue, at Choctaw, Araya had won the T.J. Cloutier Poker Challenge. He took home $83,659 in October 2011 when he won this title. He kept going with poker and won $270,380 in his recent victory at the WSOP Circuit Main Event. Araya noted how this amount of money is equivalent to what he could have earned as an aircraft mechanic over about 4 or 5 years. When asked about his victory soon after he won the final poker hand of the game, he said: Right now I cant believe it. It didnt sink in yet. I cant tell you how amazing this feeling is. Araya has been living in the United States for 21 years. He was born in East Africa, and left there to escape war. He has a wife and three children living with him in America. He plans to take his children on a trip to see their grandparents, who are still living in East Africa. He also has a romantic notion, wanting to take his wife for a second honeymoon for their 10th wedding anniversary. Araya had the following to say: Last night I kind of felt I was going to win because I had the chip lead, but when I eliminated (Derek Browning in sixth) I knew I was going to win.

Black Friday Saves One Players Money & Relationship
published on 04/23/11 at 8:54 am One person who will be saving money after Black Friday, is Steve Street3 Carse. Known to have wasted thousands of dollars on online poker sites, the recent federal take over of Full Tilt Poker will have a positive effect on Mr. Carses financial statements. Angel Valdez, of the Online Poker Team, fires some questions at Oklahomas number one degenerate. How much money have you saved since Online poker got shut down?I transferred my last $80 on FTP to Angel to bet on black at the casino. He informed me that I lost. So, I would have naturally deposited another $50 and in turn, ran that up to around $55, then lost it all. Then I would have reloaded again. I would guess since Friday, I have saved around $450. But, since I dont have online poker anymore, i am extremely bored and have since spent over $1500 on various illegal endeavors. Those intruders in their homes have names? Some call them Kids, and others call them Mom/Dad/HoneyHonestly I am scared to death about what this question means and wonder how much meth the interviewer has inhaled to come up with such a psycho question. I live with my girlfriend Kelly and I have not seen any intruders in my home. When they stepped outside did the sun melt off their skin? Did they get the vampire effect?Again, another scary question that makes about as much sense as a gaggle of coked up geese selling cookies to gimps. Is their ability to make money playing online poker myopia equal to lets say Charlie Sheen thinking hes normal?I dont know what myopia means and Im too fucking lazy to google it. Charlie Sheen has Goddesses, cocaine, no teeth and millions of dollars. I have Kelly, teeth and tens of dollars. You tell me. Why is chicke nmeth so addictive, especially among online poker players?A bit of history, Chicken meth was introduced in Arkansas by Jeremy Allen. Its a combination of meth, chicken shit and feathers. It gives one the ability to 5bet shove 73o into AA and see a 773 flop. Or at least thats what chicken meth benders will trick your mind into seeing. On the evolutionary poker scale, where would you place IBGPN?I would place him at the bottom of the scale. Somewhere between a single celled organism and tadpole. While he can swim with the sharks, hes often overlooked as his bank roll rarely goes above the $1 mark. His most frequent sightings have the word (OBSERVER) after his name. I just had a cup of tea and a grilled cheese sandwich. Comments? You must be gay or British.

Pius Heinz wins 2011 WSOP
The 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event title has finally been claimed. Pius Heinz, a 22-year-old professional poker player from Cologne, Germany, took the title holding Ace-King against Martin Staszko’s Ten-Seven. Neither hand improved and Heinz took home $8.7 million with ace-high. Not only was Heinz the first German to win the Main, he was the first to sit at the final table. Over 6800 players from 85 different nations started the event over 13 days, with a prize pool of $64,540,858. The top 693 cashed and the tournament broke, as usual, over a period of five months between the body of the event and the final table, the “November Nine.” Notably, third-place finisher Ben Lamb was looking to culminate a sick, sick run at the WSOP. He place in five consecutive tournaments, making the final table of four of them, and winning one of them. This unheard-of streak locked him up solidly for the WSOP Player of the Year title. For the first time, the Main Event was broadcast (almost) live. There was a delay of several minutes to limit the ability of players to exploit the private pocket card cameras. Although this could potentially allow players to learn about very recent hands during breaks, creating a unique angle on the most important final table of the year. The continuing high turnout of the WSOP is taken as proof that the allure of poker continues throughout the world despite a federal crackdown against online poker. # Player Earnings Country 1 Pius Heinz $8,715,638 Germany 2 Martin Staszko $5,433,086 Czech Republic 3 Ben Lamb $4,021,138 United States 4 Matt Giannetti $3,012,700 United States 5 Phil Collins $2,269,599 United States 6 Eoghan O’Dea $1,720,831 Ireland 7 Bob Bounahra $1,314,097 Belize 8 Anton Makiieveskyi $1,010,015 Ukraine 9 Sam Holden $782,115 United Kingdom Copyright 2012 Ace Nine, LLC Legal | Contact Us | Site Map

Reflections on the Full Tilt Poker Smear Campaign
published on 09/21/11 at 4:18 pm With all the news coming out about Full Tilt Poker and a so-called Ponzi scheme, I felt the need to say something. First, let me start by saying that Full Tilt Poker is a class organization that has treated this organization and overseas bank accounts fairly throughout the years. Howard Lederer and Jesus Ferguson are honest, trust worthy individuals. Not to mention, Rafe Furst, although he did move to Mexico, I can only say his work with charities and the Bad Beat on Cancer have garnered the utmost respect from me. Second, it is a shame to see the U.S. government stick their noses into something that was good for the poker industry, the nations economy, and an individuals self esteem. The majority of players online are terrible and just give money to the lucky few. But these players kept depositing funds into their accounts, helping my lifestyle with a variety of extravagant needs. So what a player did not know about the inner processes of Full Tilt, did not hurt them. They would never have withdrawn funds in the first place. Third, all these dopes posting about a 400 million dollar hole in Full Tilt Pokers finances, do not know one thing about international finance. 99% of their money is in overseas accounts. To get their money into U.S. accredited bank accounts takes several months, due to the Patriot Act. I believe Mr. Lederer and Mr. Ferguson are just waiting for the funds to go through the proper channels and everyone will be promptly paid. So let us stop slinging the proverbial mud at Full Tilt Poker. We need to let this show trial run its course and in the end, you shall all see that they are innocent of all charges. For this edition of Strategy with Kristy, brought to you by South Point, Flowers sits down with Kristy Arnett to discuss bluffing preflop. Here is a snippet from the interview: How do you balance the need to steal with the fact that these days many players know that you’re stealing? If I have a very aggressive player or two to my left and I’m in late position, and there’s an obvious weak [player in the] big blind, I don’t know how often I’m going to open very light. I’m anticipating getting flatted, and people messing with me after the flop because they know I don’t have that great of a range. A lot of times, the general strategy should change to fold. Play tighter if there are good aggressive players behind you. But, if no one is really messing with you, you can sneak in a raise with a pretty weak hand. With what kind of range are you willing to go for blind steals? Well, live is way different than online, and I haven’t played online in so long that I guess my strict math fundamentals aren’t as good as they should be. When you play live, people look at their hands before they’re supposed to, so I could be in the hijack and know the guy on the button is already holding his cards that he wants to fold. So then, I’m really in the cutoff. You should play way, way more hands in live poker, in my opinion. What raise size do you prefer? I vary my raise sizing more than most, but generally, I think 2.5 times the big blind is fine. What really matters is, if it’s really early in the tournament, and you’re very deep, I would recommend raising 3 times. Maybe midway through the tournament, when there still aren’t antes and the average stack is around 50 big blinds, I think under 2.5 times is probably better because you’re risking 250 to win 150 if the blinds are 50/100. With no antes, if you get three-bet, it puts you in a tough spot. You’re never really getting a good price so depending on stack sizes, I think you can risk less. He has since moved out of the country to play but recently said he will no longer be playing online. Instead, hes offered his services as a coach. For this edition of Strategy with Kristy, brought to you by South Point, Bleznick talks about what it takes to be poker professional, beginner pot-limit Omaha strategy, and advice he has for those considering making poker a career. Here is a snippet from the interview: As a no-limit holdem player, I understand when to three-bet preflop, but in pot-limit Omaha, it seems like players are getting in buy-ins so frequently. So I guess my question is, what are you considering when three-betting in pot-limit Omaha? To talk about what you first said about players getting it in by three-betting and four-betting preflop thats honestly because everyone literally just has a gambling problem. Im being serious. Everyone just gambles in Omaha because the edges are so small in any individual hand. If you take eight-nine-ten-jack double-suited and you put it up against ace-ace-two-six with a suit, youre basically a very small dog. When you take into account the blinds and the dead money, youre basically flipping. Lets say a guy is playing with $200,000 in his account and another guy is playing with $20,000. The guy thats three-betting with eight-nine-ten-jack [with $200,000 in his account] is eventually going to bust you because youre flipping and the guy has you covered with his bankroll. As for the three-betting, I think you should be three-betting a lot more when youre deeper. It allows for a lot more play. If you three-bet a guy that has 100 big blinds, and he four-bets you with aces, at the point, youre not even playing poker anymore. Youre just gambling. If you do it when youre really deep, you can actually play poker. These guys that do that and three-bet and four-bet and constantly get it in are literally putting their money in and closing their eyes. Its just stupid, honestly. When I say the games are tough, its because the edges are small. So even if a guy is doing that, hes never in that bad a shape. Its not like in holdem where youre getting it in in a 80/20 or 70/30 situation. Youre getting it in at like 55/45. A lot of people cant overcome that.
